Emma returns to London in the early 1880s to step into her inheritance at Lapis Lapuzli House, which was under guardianship by a relative till then. Emma’s return to London doesn’t go quite as smoothly as she imagined and she tracks her days and musings in her journal. From making her new room in the attic livable, battling mice and dust, to verbally wrestling with her stubborn cousin.
Emma M. Lion is a charming protagonist, her world comes alive in her diary entries, she captures the quirks and characters of St. Crispian’s with a keen eye. While finding her footing in London, she slowly reveals what has transpired in the last few years and how she came to be in this situation.
It is easy to fall in love with Emma M. Lion, a heroine that captures ones heart like Elizabeth Bennet or Anne Shirley before her. The writing is accessible but whimsy, Lapis Lazuli House quickly felt like home to me too and I can’t wait to follow Emmas journey in her next journal.
